DOUBLE WHAMMY IN SAN ANTONIO, WILL NONITO DONAIRE & CHAVEZ JR. PREVAIL?‏

Nonito Donaire has been blazing his way through fights like lightning in these last couple of years and has been really soaking in the media and fans. He's achieved a lot in this short space of time and has been consuming the fruits of his labor. He is a very cheery chap, and this weekend will most probably be another momentous occasion in San Antonio. He worked out for fans and media in his media day today with Top Rank, and he's been in a really great mood. He told Top Rank's Christina Poncher, how he was feeling, as this will be the first time that he fights in San Antonio, Texas. "The food and weather are great and I'm really excited for this fight and we're just having fun right now, and I'm really thankful of the fans, and I'm really blessed and inspired because of the fans, so that's what I'm going to do is give them a good fight,” he said. He also went on to say that he really enjoyed the support of the fans. Even during his dinner out, he's been giving fans autographs. He is an all around entertainer and has a great love for the sport, which he has been demonstrating to us.

With regard to his opponent Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., who will also be looking to capture the vacant WBO Junior Featherweight Title. His father Wilfredo Vazquez Sr. is the biggest inspirational figure in his life. He is carrying through with the family boxing tradition with high hopes. Maybe it will never be as they say, ‘Like father like son.’ However we can say, it is his ambition to become a world champion.

He was successful in February 2010 against Filipino, Marvin Sonsosa and when he used hard combinations to the head and liver in the 4th round, Sonsosa was unable to recover, and Vasquez was able to pick up the WBO Super Bantamweight World Title, which was vacant at the time. He defended his world title two times before losing it to Jorge Arce. It turned out to be a great fight in Las Vegas.

This Saturday he plans to become a world champion once again. However he will have to overcome the fast pace and strong power that Donaire has. We will see in San Antonioif Nonito Donaire will have a stunning victory in the early rounds or perhaps get drawn into a longer fight with Vazquez. Even though Donaire is a favorite to win, we should not underestimate Vazquez. The Puerto Rican has the skill and technique that he has picked up from his father. It’s possible that he could pull off the upset.  He told Universal Sports, "I have trained with confidence and I'm going to do everything right and win every minute of the fight. On Saturday night we're going to repeat history like my dad did 17 years ago."

WBC Middleweight Champion Julio Chavez Jr. and challenger Marco Antonio Rubio will be the co feature on Saturday. Rubio told Joseph Heron, "I'm well prepared to take this bout and have a good fight. On Saturday it's going to happen that I will have the same intentions that I had when I beat five opponents in a row in 2011." With so much confidence blooming against two major players of Top Rank Boxing it will be a major upset if either one of them loses, whether it is Chavez Jr. or Donaire.
